What are the skills taught in feeding therapy?

ORAL SKILLS

The right nutrients are essential for a healthy diet. Some children may lack the skills needed to eat and/or drink due to developmental delays, illness, allergies and a variety of other factors. When this is the case, I can work with you, and your child, to teach little how to control and coordinate sucking, chewing, and swallowing while eating and drinking. We can also work on increasing their oral strength and range of motion.

FOOD ORIENTATION

A healthy, balanced diet is vital to child development. Due to sensory aversion, developmental delays or other reasons, some children need assistance broadening the amount and type of foods they eat. Using a variety or techniques, we’ll work together on increasing the amount and types of food your child is willing to eat.
